- This is a telepathic species. No matter how powerful their telepathy is, they must follow the same laws as all telepathic species. Telepathy has to be controlled at all times for the sake of privacy, and using it on a person without consent is not allowed.
- This species is allied with the Federation. If your character applied to Starfleet Academy before 2410, they will have required a letter of recommendation from a Starfleet officer ranked Commander or higher. If this was after 2410 (with the establishment of the Khitomer Alliance,) they could apply without the letter. Alternatively, your character can be an exchange officer or a total transfer from their home faction's forces. If you go with the latter, you must include why they chose to swap to Starfleet.
When you're writing a KDF species there are some things you should consider in terms of lore. Here is information from the 24th Century onwards:
- 2403: The Gorn Hegemony falls to the Klingon Empire
- It is revealed that members of the Gorn leadership were Undine infiltrators
- 2405: The Federation refuses to withdraw civilians from the Hromi cluster; a new Federation-Klingon War begins
- Nausicaan tribes form a non-aggression pact with the Klingon Empire
- 2409: The Fek’Ihri return to attack Qo’noS
- The Klingon Empire attempt to use temporal technology to win the Klingon-Federation War
- 2410: Peace talks begin between the Klingons, Federation, and Romulans. At the same time, the Undine launch an attack on Earth Spacedock and Qo’noS. Qo’noS is saved by Starfleet, but the Iconians then murder multiple of the High Council
- 2411: Klingon Civil War begins due to the temporal return of J’Ula
